University of Ghana Postpones Reopening Date for 2026/2027 Academic Year Indefinitely
The University of Ghana (UG) has postponed the reopening date for the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely, leaving students awaiting a new date for the commencement of academic activities.
In a notice issued on October 10, 2026, the university management announced that the reopening, which was initially scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, had been postponed. According to the notice, a revised date for the reopening of the university will be communicated to students in due course.
The university did not indicate a specific reason for the postponement or provide a new date for the start of the academic year.
Management expressed regret over any inconvenience the decision may cause and appealed to students to remain patient and understanding while arrangements are being made for the reopening.
Meanwhile, students have been urged to complete their academic registration online using the procedures outlined in an earlier communication from the university. The registration process is important for securing students’ places in classes and ensuring their eligibility to participate in the upcoming random bed allocation exercise.
The university also reminded students that the bed allocation exercise would be conducted soon, making it essential for eligible students to complete the necessary registration requirements ahead of time.
The notice was signed by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Gordon A. Awandare, on behalf of the university management.
Students are therefore advised to monitor the university’s official communication channels for updates on the revised reopening date and further instructions regarding academic registration and residential accommodation.
The postponement comes as students prepare for the new academic year, with many expected to make arrangements for their return to campus once the university announces the new date.
For now, students are encouraged to complete their online academic registration and await further announcements from the University of Ghana regarding the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic year.
