SLTF Announces Bridge Financing for First-Year Students Under No Academic Fees Policy 2026

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has announced a bridge financing intervention to ensure no eligible first-year student loses their admission due to fee-payment deadlines under the Government’s No Academic Fees Policy.

In a press release dated October 5, 2026, the Fund, under the Ministry of Education, said it will provide upfront financing for newly admitted first-year students of public universities and public technical universities for the 2026/2027 academic year.

According to the SLTF, tertiary institutions are requiring newly admitted students to pay a portion of their fees by a set deadline to confirm their admissions. However, support under the No Academic Fees Policy is only paid after institutions submit admission data and students’ details are validated — a process that takes time.

To close that gap, the SLTF says it will bring the academic fee support forward.

In keeping with the No-Fees-Stress agenda of ensuring that financial circumstances do not impede access to tertiary education, the Fund will, upon application by an eligible student, advance the required fee deposit directly to the tertiary institution to secure the student’s admission.

The SLTF also expressed appreciation to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Vice-Chancellors Ghana, Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities, Ghana, and the leadership of public tertiary institutions for collaborating and for extending fee-payment deadlines to facilitate the intervention.

How to Apply for SLTF

All newly admitted first-year students who require immediate financial support under the No Academic Fees Policy are encouraged to apply promptly through the official No-Fees-Stress Portal:

The Fund says early application will ensure students secure their admission and begin their academic journey without financial anxiety.
