Cape Coast Technical University to Make AI and Soft Skills Training Mandatory for All Students
Cape Coast Technical University AI and Soft Skills training will become compulsory for all students from the next academic year, as the institution embarks on a major digital transformation aimed at preparing graduates for the rapidly evolving global job market.
The initiative means that every student must successfully acquire competencies in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and essential soft skills before graduating from the university. According to the university, the move is intended to produce graduates who are not only academically qualified but also equipped with the practical and digital skills demanded by today’s employers.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye announced the Cape Coast Technical University AI and Soft Skills programme during the institution’s maiden press soirée in Cape Coast. He said the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to increase student enrolment, expand infrastructure and introduce innovative academic programmes.
As part of the Cape Coast Technical University AI and Soft Skills agenda, the university will also launch a smart classroom project and adopt a blended learning model from the next academic year. The new approach will combine face-to-face teaching with online learning to improve students’ educational experience and provide greater flexibility.
Professor Boakye explained that advances in technology have changed the way education is delivered, making it possible for students to access quality learning without always being physically present on campus.
Why should students still come to campus? Some are coming from as far-flung areas as Twifo Praso when they can sit behind the comfort of their computers and have quality education, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the Cape Coast Technical University AI and Soft Skills initiative is designed to prepare students for the future of work by equipping them with digital competencies, communication skills, critical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
He added that the university is committed to producing graduates who can compete confidently in both local and international labour markets.
We are determined to produce, not just 21st-century graduates, but competitive 21st-century graduates. We are doing that through grooming, providing outlets for innovation and engaging deeper practical learning, Professor Boakye stated.
The introduction of mandatory AI and soft skills training reflects the growing importance of digital literacy and workplace readiness in higher education. With artificial intelligence reshaping industries worldwide, universities are increasingly integrating technology-focused programmes into their curricula to ensure graduates remain relevant in an evolving economy.
The new initiative positions Cape Coast Technical University among higher education institutions in Ghana embracing innovation to improve graduate employability and prepare students for opportunities in the digital age.
