NSS Reposting Guide 2026: How To Apply & Requirements

Thousands of graduates posted for the 2026/2027 national service year are seeking to change their posting. The National Service Authority (NSA) says reposting is not automatic, but it is allowed for personnel with genuine special cases.
Here is everything you need to know to apply for reposting and get approved.
What Is NSS Reposting?
Reposting is the official process of requesting a change of your assigned region or user agency. It must be approved by the Executive Director of the National Service Authority. Personal preference alone is not accepted.
Valid Reasons Accepted For Reposting
The Authority considers reposting only under these grounds:
1. Medical Reasons
If your posted region worsens your health or you need to be close to your medical team. Examples include asthma, sickle cell, heart conditions, or mobility challenges.
Requirement: Medical report from a government hospital.
2. Marital and Family Reasons
For married personnel, nursing mothers, and pregnant women who need to live with their spouse or family.
Requirement: Marriage certificate, spouse’s workplace letter, or antenatal card.
3. Security and Safety Concerns
If your posting is in a conflict-prone or unsafe area.
Requirement: Police report or letter from District Assembly.
4. Disability or Special Needs
Persons with disabilities are given priority to choose a convenient posting.
5. Sponsored or Institutional Request
If an accredited institution has officially requested you. For example, if a company like AmaliTech, a hospital, or a Senior High School writes to NSA requesting your service, reposting is often granted immediately. This is the strongest ground.
6. Administrative Error or Course Mismatch
If you studied BSc. Agriculture but were posted to a district court, or you studied Accounting but were posted to a primary school with no vacancy. If the institution writes “No Vacancy” on your appointment letter, you qualify for reposting.
Requirement: Rejection letter or letter indicating mismatch from the institution.
7. Compassionate or Exceptional Grounds
If you are the sole caregiver for a sick parent, have lost a parent, or face severe family hardship.
Requirement: Affidavit, letter from Chief, pastor, MP, death certificate, or medical report of dependent.
Important: Accommodation and cost of transportation alone are not valid reasons. The NSA expects you to manage unless tied to compassionate hardship or security.
Documents You Need
- Printed NSS appointment letter
- Application letter addressed to The Executive Director, National Service Authority
- Valid ID – Ghana Card or Student ID
- Supporting document for your reason (medical report, marriage certificate, request letter, rejection letter).
Step-By-Step Guide To Apply
Step 1: Accept Your Posting
Log in to the NSA portal and click “Accept Posting” and print your appointment letter. Do not click “Reject Posting”. Accepting does not block reposting.
Step 2: Get a Request Letter or Rejection Letter
Go to the institution you want to serve at, for example, St. Mary’s Senior High School, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, or Ghana Education Service. Ask for an official request letter on their letterhead stating they need you. If your current institution has no vacancy, ask them to endorse your appointment letter with “No Vacancy” and stamp.
Step 3: Write Your Reposting Application
Address it to the Executive Director through the Regional Director of the region you were posted to.
Example subject: “Application for Reposting from Berekum District Assembly to St. Augustine’s College on Grounds of Course Mismatch”
Be brief, state your course, current posting, preferred posting, and valid reason.
Step 4: Submit at the Regional Office
Submit all documents at the NSA Regional Office where you were posted. For instance, if posted to Ashanti Region, submit at the NSA Regional Office in Kumasi. The regional officer will process and forward to head office.
Step 5: Check Portal for Approval
If approved, your portal will update with a new appointment letter within 5-14 working days. You will receive an SMS notification. Print the new letter and report.
When Is The Deadline?
Reposting is usually allowed within the first 30 days after postings are released. Apply immediately after printing your letter. Late applications are rarely considered.
3 Mistakes That Lead To Rejection
- Using “the place is far” or “I have no accommodation” without proof of hardship.
- Reporting and starting work at your old station before applying.
- Using forged medical reports or fake marriage certificates. NSA verifies all documents.
Reposting for 2026/2027 is done physically at the NSA Regional Offices. There is no online reposting button on the portal.
