How to Check SHS Placement 2026/2027 in Ghana, CSSPS Portal & Self-Placement

When Will SHS Placement 2026 Be Released?

Based on past years, Ghana Education Service will release SHS placement between late September and early October 2026, about 3-4 weeks after BECE results. Last year it was released on September 28. So, expect around same time this year.

How to Check Placement on cssps.gov.gh, Step by Step

This is the official site. Any other site is fake.

1. Go to https://cssps.gov.gh or https://cssps.org.gh
2. Click “Check Placement”
3. Enter your BECE Index Number, Add 26 at end. Example: If your index is 0201234567, enter 020123456726. That 26 means year 2026.
4. Enter your Checker PIN and Serial
5. Click Submit

Your placed school will show, Example: “Placed: PRESEC Legon, General Science”. Take screenshot and print it. You will need it for enrollment.

What If It Says, “Not Placed”? Do Self-Placement

Don’t cry. Almost 30% of students are not placed in first round because they chose only Category A schools. This is what to do:

1. On same cssps.gov.gh, click “Self-Placement”
2. It will show you schools with vacancies, mostly Category B and C schools that still have space.
3. Select your Region, then Residential status (Day or Boarding)
4. Choose a school with vacancy you like
5. Select your programme, e.g., General Arts, Home Economics
6. Confirm and submit. Print it.

You must have very fast internet for self-placement; schools disappear in minutes. I advise you check at 5am or 11pm when traffic is low.

After Placement, What Next?

1. Go to your placed school’s website or Facebook page. They will post prospectus and admission date. Usually, enrollment is 2 weeks after placement.
2. Prospectus for boarding is around GH₵3,000 – GH₵5,000 in 2026, start preparing.
3. If you got Day school but you wanted Boarding, you can still go to the school and request change during enrollment. Many schools allow if you talk to administration early.

Common Mistakes That Cost Students Their Placement

• Paying someone GH₵200 to “change school”. It’s scam. Only CSSPS can change.
• Checking 10 times with same checker. You get only 3 checks. After that, buy new one.
• Using wrong index, don’t add space.
