Emmanuel K. Dogbevi Calls for Non-Partisan Accountability in ORAL Investigations

Journalist Emmanuel K. Dogbevi has called for what he describes as a more balanced and non-partisan approach to the work of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, arguing that accountability should apply equally to both current and former public officials, regardless of their political affiliation.
In a Facebook post, Emmanuel Dogbevi on ORAL investigations expressed concern that public attention has largely focused on allegations involving former officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), while questioning whether similar scrutiny is being applied to individuals serving under the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
Referring to ongoing legal proceedings involving Miracles Aboagye, Dogbevi argued that allegations of unexplained wealth should not be viewed as an issue affecting only one political party. He suggested that public officials from any administration could potentially acquire assets that exceed their known sources of income and should therefore be subject to the same level of scrutiny.
According to Emmanuel Dogbevi on ORAL investigations, Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts risk losing public confidence if state institutions are perceived as acting only after governments leave office, rather than investigating alleged wrongdoing while officials remain in power.
Dogbevi further argued that the country’s institutions should be strengthened to ensure accountability is continuous and independent of changes in political power. He maintained that investigating only former officeholders creates the impression that public officials enjoy protection while their parties remain in government.
The journalist also questioned whether ORAL should broaden its scope to examine allegations involving officials serving under the current administration, stating that doing so would reinforce public confidence in the initiative’s credibility and impartiality.
He stressed that Emmanuel Dogbevi on ORAL investigations is rooted in the belief that anti-corruption measures should be guided by fairness rather than political considerations. In his view, holding all public officials accountable regardless of party affiliation would help deter the misuse of public office for personal gain.
Dogbevi concluded by urging anti-corruption institutions to remain politically neutral and apply the law equally to everyone, arguing that only an impartial system can effectively combat corruption and strengthen public trust in Ghana’s governance institutions.
