Government to Cover Medical Bills of Children Injured in Dzorwulu School Bus Crash – Gender Minister

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has assured families of children injured in the recent road crash on the Dzorwulu–Accra Mall stretch that the government will fully support their recovery, including paying for their medical treatment.
The assurance was given on Friday, July 31, 2026, when the Minister visited some of the injured children receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital following the accident involving a school bus and a tipper truck.
Government Pledges Support
Describing the incident as tragic, Dr. Lartey expressed sympathy to the affected children and their families, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring they receive the necessary care.
She said the government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, is committed to supporting the victims throughout their recovery.
“As the Minister responsible for children’s welfare, I want to assure the families of government’s commitment and support, especially that of President John Dramani Mahama, in ensuring the full recovery of the children,” she said.
Medical Costs to Be Covered
The Minister also assured parents that they would not be responsible for the medical expenses arising from the accident.
According to her, the government’s intervention will allow families to focus on providing emotional support to their children while treatment is underway.
Dr. Lartey stated that investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing and expressed confidence that the relevant authorities would establish the facts surrounding the crash and ensure accountability where necessary.
She is also expected to visit other injured children receiving treatment at different health facilities as part of the government’s support efforts.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that one of the children involved in the crash died in the early hours of Friday, July 31, as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
The tragic incident has sparked renewed calls for improved road safety measures, particularly for school transportation, to help prevent similar occurrences in the future.
