President Mahama orders GHS2 reduction in diesel price

President John Dramani Mahama has directed a GH¢2 reduction in diesel prices, with the new pricing set to take effect from Tuesday, August 4, 2026, following a Cabinet meeting aimed at easing the cost of fuel for Ghanaians.

The directive was announced in a statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications, who said Cabinet approved the intervention as part of government’s efforts to reduce the financial burden on households, transport operators and businesses that depend heavily on diesel.

Under the Mahama orders GH¢2 diesel price reduction directive, the revised diesel price will become effective on August 4, 2026, with the relevant agencies and stakeholders expected to implement the adjustment nationwide.

Government says the reduction is intended to lower operating costs in key sectors of the economy, including transportation, agriculture, construction and manufacturing. The move is also expected to provide some relief to commercial drivers, logistics operators and businesses facing high fuel expenses.

According to the statement, the Mahama orders GH¢2 diesel price reduction initiative forms part of broader measures being pursued by the government to stabilise the economy, reduce the cost of doing business and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.

The Minister for Government Communications indicated that the appropriate regulatory institutions and petroleum industry stakeholders will oversee the implementation of the new diesel price beginning August 4, 2026.

The announcement has been welcomed by many consumers and businesses, who hope the reduction will help ease transportation costs and contribute to lower prices for goods and services in the coming weeks.

Government has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing policies that support economic recovery while ensuring that the benefits of improved economic conditions are felt by ordinary Ghanaians.
