Police debunk viral flyer claiming AirPods are banned while driving

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to disregard a flyer circulating on social media that claims the use of AirPods, earphones and other audio devices while driving or riding is prohibited under Ghanaian law.

According to the Police Service, the flyer did not originate from the institution and has neither been issued nor authorised by the Service.

The Police described the publication as false and said its Cybercrime Unit has begun efforts to trace the individuals behind the circulation of the misleading flyer.

The clarification comes after the flyer gained attention online, with claims suggesting that motorists and motorcyclists could be violating road traffic laws by using AirPods or earphones while on the road.

Police caution road users against distractions

Although the Police Service has dismissed the flyer, it has cautioned motorists and other road users against activities that could distract them while driving or riding.

The Service explained that any device or activity that affects a person’s concentration, hearing, control of a vehicle or awareness of surrounding traffic could increase the risk of road crashes.

Motorists and motorcyclists have therefore been advised to minimise distractions and exercise maximum caution whenever they are on the road.

Public urged to follow road traffic regulations

The Ghana Police Service has also encouraged motorists, motorcyclists and other road users to familiarise themselves with the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2519) and other applicable road traffic laws.

According to the Service, compliance with road traffic regulations remains essential to reducing road crashes and protecting lives.
